How many years back can you amend your taxes?

-As many as you need to. But you can only get a past-due refund for the past three years.Back to the year you were born or the year that there were first taxes, whichever is later.



However, you can only get money (refunds) for 2008 and later.
What needs to be amended? The classic statute is 3 years for a refund, but there are exceptions.
