How can I get a transcript of my income for the last 10 years?

-My mom needs to get a copy or some kind of paper that shows how much money she has declared and payed since 1991. She has been self employed and the person who always did the taxes for her is no where to be found. Now that she is retired, she wants to apply for ss benefits, she wants to have an average amount of how much she's made each year.

Is there a site or something that may help us get that information. Thanks in advance!!You can get some of the transcripts using this IRS link: https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof-tra/start鈥?/a>

The only catch is that your mom still has to live at the same address that she lived at when she filed her last tax return. If she's moved, then she'll have to call the number. (I just think it's easier to do it online when you can.)For federal information your Mom can go to the local IRS walk in site to request the transcripts.

The transcript can be ordered by completing a Form 4506-T (PDF) or calling the IRS toll-free at 800-829-1040 and following the prompts in the recorded message.

There is no charge for the transcript and you should receive it in 10 business days from the time we receive your request.

Tax return transcripts are generally available for the current and past three years..
you can get transcripts for 4 yrs, on form 4506T, anything prior to that may not be available

if your mother was self employed and filed her tax returns each year, paid her self employment tax, the SSA has all that information and SSA can let her know how much she is eligible to get when she files for SS

she should have kept all her tax returns if for nothing else but casual information
She may ( ?? ) be able to contact the IRS for copies of most of her tax returns, as well as the State she resides in for the State returns.....................social security will be able to provide the amount she would be eligible for IF her earning were reported to them
social security has that.

Let's start over. Your question is that your mother wants to apply for SSA retirement benefits. These are based on her earnings history. The SSA gets that history from the W-2s employers send in (though a few screwup and don't) and from schedule SE from the tax return of a self-employed person.

You admit mom is self-employed and did her taxes. Therefore the SSA has the history. For the past 10 years (but no longer due to budget constraints), the SSA has sent out earnings histories. Your mother should have been checking those each year and comparing them to her tax return. This same form would show her expected monthly income if she retired at 62 or 66 or 70. The only real question is if mom wants to retire early at 62 or wait for her full retirement age.

If your mother has lost this form, she may be able to request another one. Hm, guess not. There is an estimator here: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/estimator/

She could request a year by year detailed history (paying a fee), but if she was self-employed, it won't show much anything more than the free report would.

There is no other database. The IRS keeps tax returns for 7 years and then destroys them.

The IRS can provide copies of income statements for the past 10 years, but these aren't accurate for self-employed people and you asked about 1991.

You do know that if mom only has 40 credits, her monthly SSA payment will be tiny as it's based on the idea that she worked 35 years, not 10. Any year she didn't work is counted as $0.
